Call for Nominations — Executive Committee
URFA has officially opened nominations for the Executive Committee positions of:
- President
- Treasurer
- Vice-President APT
As our union continues to navigate the complexities of the modern academic landscape, we require leaders dedicated to building the collective strength of our membership and the advancement of our shared mission.
What does the Executive Committee do?
The affairs and business of URFA are managed by our Executive Committee, the leadership body empowered to conduct the affairs of our union of behalf of the members of our seven bargaining units at Campion College, First Nations University of Canada, Luther College and the University of Regina.
Members of the Executive Committee meet twice per month to discuss issues, explore and report on any matters of interest to our union, review and approve our annual budget and financial statements, make governance decisions, and more. They also participate on behalf of our union in the Saskatchewan Organization of Faculty Associations (SOFA), Saskatchewan Federation of Labour (SFL), and on matters of common interest with other unions and faculty associations.
Nomination Requirements
To stand for election, a candidate must be an URFA member in good standing.
URFA members from all bargaining units are encouraged to apply for the positions of President and Treasurer, while only APT members are eligible for the Vice-President APT position.
All candidates are required to address the membership at the Spring General Membership Meeting on March 24, 2026, running from 1:30 P.M – 3:30 P.M. This forum allows candidates to share their perspectives on issues of importance to our union, respond to questions, and provide members the opportunity to understand their vision for the Executive Committee’s leadership before the vote.
Deadline
Nomination forms must be received by the Returning Officer at urfa@uregina.ca no later than 4:30 P.M. on Friday February 27, 2026. Forms and instructions are provided for each role below.
The President provides leadership for our union and represents the interests of members at all levels. They chair meetings, provide strategic direction, and assist in the overall governance of the union.
- Serving as the chief spokesperson for our union with allied organizations, CAUT, the SFL, the public, students, and the media.
- Chairing union meetings, Executive Committee Meetings, and the Council of Representatives.
- Collaborating with the Executive Director to ensure smooth day-to-day operations of our organization.
- Providing direction to the general management of our union.
- Serving as an ex officio member of all Standing and Ad Hoc Committees, ensuring a unified vision across advocacy, equity, finance, and grievances.
The elected President will serve a two-year term from May 1, 2026, to April 30, 2028.
This role requires a serious commitment of time and effort. To facilitate this, your collective agreement and URFA policy may provide for release time. Please contact the URFA office at urfa@uregina.ca with any questions about this.

Each nomination must be signed by five members of our union in good standing. The nominee must sign the nomination form to signify their consent to let their name stand as a candidate.
The Treasurer plays a vital role in ensuring the fiscal health and transparency of our organization, enabling the Executive Committee to lead and advocate effectively for all members.
- The Treasurer is a central member of the union’s leadership team, serving on the Executive Committee and Council of Representatives.
- Working with the URFA Executive Director and Administrative Director, the Treasurer provides fiscal stewardship, overseeing the care and custody of URFA’s funds and assets.
- The Treasurer serves as Chair to URFA’s Finance Committee and Trust Fund Committee, guiding our union’s financial strategy and serving as liaison between the Executive Committee and Trustees of the URFA Trust Fund.
- Presents detailed accounts of URFA’s finances at Executive and general membership meetings, ensuring accountability.
- Acting in the capacity of President should the President and Vice-Presidents be unable to do so.
- Represents URFA nationally as a Director to the CAUT Defence Fund.
The elected Treasurer will serve a two-year term, from May 1, 2026, to April 30, 2028.

The Vice-President APT provides essential leadership within the Executive Committee, ensuring that the unique perspectives and interests of Administrative, Professional, and Technical (APT) members are central to our union’s governance.
- The Vice-President APT is an integral part of our union’s leadership team, representing the APT constituency at both the Executive Committee and the Council of Representatives.
- Serves as a primary voice for APT members in matters of collective bargaining, working conditions, and professional standards.
- Engages in the general management of our union’s affairs, helping to shape policies that affect the entire membership.
- Performs such other duties as may be required by the President, Executive Committee, or Council of Representatives to achieve our union’s objectives.
- Performs the duties of the President during their temporary absence or disability, ensuring continuous leadership for our union.
The elected Vice-President APT will serve a two-year term from May 1, 2026, to April 30, 2028.
This role requires a dedicated commitment of time and effort to effectively represent the APT membership and contribute to the collective leadership of the Executive Committee. Prospective candidates should be prepared to engage deeply with the issues facing APT members across all URFA-represented employers.
