Inter­est­ed in vol­un­teer­ing in our union this year? Now is your oppor­tu­ni­ty to join the URFA Griev­ance Committee.

The Griev­ance Com­mit­tee sup­ports and enhances the griev­ance pro­ce­dure — a process by which a mem­ber of the union, or a group of mem­bers, files a for­mal com­plaint about work­ing con­di­tions, harass­ment and bul­ly­ing, or anoth­er vio­la­tion of their rights.

The Griev­ance Com­mit­tee meets on the sec­ond Tues­day of each month to review, dis­cuss, and pro­vide direc­tion on griev­ance files. Mem­bers of the com­mit­tee are vol­un­teers who pro­vide over­sight and help ensure that URFA ful­fills our duty of fair rep­re­sen­ta­tion, advo­cat­ing for mem­bers in a man­ner con­sis­tent with the prin­ci­ples of nat­ur­al jus­tice and pro­ce­dur­al fairness.

Hav­ing a diverse group of mem­bers from all of the bar­gain­ing units rep­re­sent­ed by URFA is impor­tant to ensure many per­spec­tives are reflect­ed dur­ing the griev­ance process.

Vol­un­teers are cur­rent­ly need­ed from the fol­low­ing constituencies:

• 1 from Uni­ver­si­ty of Regi­na — Aca­d­e­m­ic (term ends April 30, 2028)
• 1 from Uni­ver­si­ty of Regi­na — Aca­d­e­m­ic (term ends April 30, 2029)
• 1 from Cam­pi­on Col­lege (term ends April 30, 2029)
• 1 from Luther — Aca­d­e­m­ic (term ends April 30, 2027)
• 1 from First Nations Uni­ver­si­ty of Cana­da — Aca­d­e­m­ic (term ends April 30, 2028)
• 1 from Uni­ver­si­ty of Regi­na — Ses­sion­al Mem­ber
  (term ends April 30, 2027)

Alter­nates are also need­ed from Cam­pi­on Col­lege, First Nations Uni­ver­si­ty of Cana­da — Aca­d­e­m­ic, First Nations Uni­ver­si­ty of Cana­da — APT, First Nations Uni­ver­si­ty of Cana­da — Ses­sion­als, Luther Col­lege, Uni­ver­si­ty of Regi­na — Aca­d­e­m­ic, and Uni­ver­si­ty of Regi­na — APT.

Serv­ing as an alter­nate is a good oppor­tu­ni­ty to learn more about the role and busi­ness of the Griev­ance Com­mit­tee. Alter­nates are invit­ed to attend all meet­ings, but only have vot­ing priv­i­leges if the reg­u­lar mem­ber of their con­stituen­cy is not in atten­dance.

To vol­un­teer for the URFA Griev­ance Com­mit­tee, please submit:

• A com­plet­ed nom­i­na­tion form signed by two oth­er mem­bers of your constituency.
• A state­ment of inter­est, includ­ing any rel­e­vant per­son­al, pro­fes­sion­al, or union experience.
