URFA recognizes the Transgender Day of Remembrance

Today, URFA recognizes the Transgender Day of Remembrance, which is a day observed annually on November 20th to memorialize those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia. It is also a day to call attention to the continued violence endured by transgender people.

There are many things that we can all do to fight against the discrimination faced by transgender people in our workplace and in our community. Support your co-workers and those in your community who are facing and who have faced transphobia, and call out those who use transphobic language. Attend local pride events, and support the work being done by human rights organizations to end transphobia and save lives in Canada and in other countries around the world. Be aware of your own biases, and work to be an ally to all LGBTQ2S+ people.

URFA will continue our commitment to fighting discrimination in all its forms, and to ensuring that our campus is a safe space for everyone to work and learn.

This afternoon, UR Pride is hosting an event to mark the Transgender Day of Remembrance. We encourage all members to attend. More information is available online here: https://www.facebook.com/event…
